Botox Q & A
What is Botox?
Botox is an FDA-approved treatment for the correction of facial lines and wrinkles. Botox can treat mild, moderate and even severe frown lines in the face. It is made from an extremely purified botulinum toxin protein base. Other neuromodulators available used by Dr. Baskin to address fine lines and wrinkles include Dysport and Xeomin.
How Does Botox Treatment Work?
Botox treatment is very fast, taking only a few minutes in most cases. Dr. Baskin will first discuss desired treatment outcome with the patient, and will then determine which muscles should be injected with Botox to produce the desired results. The treatment is then done in a series of small injections using an extremely slender needle. Most patients find that it is not painful. There may be a very brief stinging feeling, like a mosquito bite, and then the treatment will be complete.
How Long Does It Take Botox To Take Effect?
Most people see a noticeable difference in around four days, though it may be around a week before the wrinkle relaxation is truly evident. At around ten days to two weeks, the full effect of the Botox treatment will be seen.
How Long Does Botox Last?
The longevity of Botox will depend on upon the patient. While each person is unique, the majority of patients enjoy between three and six months of wrinkle correction from a Botox treatment. If you get follow-up treatments on a regular basis, it may allow you to extend the time between treatments since the wrinkles are never allowed to re-form.
Does Botox Require Any Downtime?
No, in fact, Botox can easily be done on your lunch hour if desired. The vast majority of patients feel no side effects from Botox treatment and can resume their normal routines immediately afterward. Avoid sun exposure, and don't rub the injection site after treatment. If desired, you can cover up any mild skin redness with cosmetics.
